It was just that corva was not hosting an event today. now here comes the true environmental effect. we, as corva, could not host an "organized event", because the environmental zealots stopped us due to a technicality. we had planned to have all participants ride on an approve course, which was cleared and adjusted by the biologist of state parks dept. now, we had to remove the markings of that very course that was approved and just tell riders, as does the general public, "ride all the trails and have fun." now you tell me who the true environmentalists are here. those escorting riders on a biologist's approved marked course or on any trail of the riders' choosing. this same scenario has happened over and over again with the environmental zealots. they think they know what they are doing, but in fact the very opposite is happening. more areas are being ridden on without management than with management of a government agency. but they don't get it. and they think they are so smart. environmental zealots true to their colors came snooping around our non-event like little dogs they are, taking pictures and high tailing it out of camp as someone spotted them. in other words, they act like spies like we had during world war i and ii. they are cowards. why? because they don't feel we have a right to exist and no intention of sitting at the table and talking about how to improve recreation. even if they did, they would only do so to try to cheat us.
This month's article is going to repeat a lot of what was in the december's legislative news but there is new and more information. it's going to be long but this is the time we've waited almost a year for. take time to read the article and above all contact the legislators on the commitees in which our bills are assigned! remember we have 4 house bills holding over for the 2006 session of the georgia general assembly. we have one bill holding over in the senate. ; a brief summary of the house bills and their assigned numbers: hb 82--increases penalties for motorist injuring, killing motorcyclists, bicyclists, pedestrians, etc. hb 135--provides for purple heart license plates for motorcycles and some other vehicles. hb 141--permit's a motorcycle, after certain precautions, to proceed through a red light when the detection device does not detect the motorcycle and the light remains red. hb 875--allows adults 21 and older who have 2 years riding experience or have completed a rider education course and have medical insurance coverage choice on helmet use. all of these bills are in the house motor vehicles committee. we must get these bills passed out of their assigned committee and out of the rules committee before they can be voted on, on the floor of the house of representatives or senate. supposedly we have already contacted our own rep. & sen. and have their support for a "yes" vote on the floor. let's get the bills to the floor! the session will start on monday january 9th. they will probably work that week and then go into recess for the following week. the committees will probably meet that first week and can act on bills. if we get enough letters to the committee members they can vote these bills out of committee at the first meeting. if this happens the bills could possibly be voted on, on the floor, before they recess but more than likely it will be after the recess. we need to flood these committee members with letters, e-mails and phone calls asking them for a "do pass" vote on the bills in committee. last month i ask you to write them at their home addresses, now we need to contact them at their office in atlanta. we need to hand write short, to the point, personal letters and or e-mails. we need to make phone calls to their legislative secretaries in atlanta!! these statements need repeating, "a lobbyist, and a legislative director at the capitol can't get bills out of committees and pass. it takes grass roots support, starting at home from many. simply put without you it will not happen". remember, a helmet law modification bill passed the house of representative in the 1984 session and one passed the house in the 1996 session. last month i told you that i was at the state capitol every day of those sessions working for those bills. but the reason they passed was because of what abate members all across the state had done before the session started and from their contacting legislators during the session. we can get all 4 of these bills passed in 2006. there's 20 reps. & sens. on both committees. this month we have their atlanta legislative office addresses, phone numbers and e-mail address on the onese who listed e-mail addresses ; contact one or all. at the time that i'm writing this i do plan on being at the capitol every day that first week. also at the! Continued from page 3. but what about money and stating a "real" life? i almost 25 years old and i have already spent almost a third of my whole life i can expect to live about until 78 according to stats. canada ; warming up the chairs at school. i think this is quite enough and i should very soon start working. no more moving around every 4 months with coop and never knowing more than 2 months in advance where i will be deported for the next work term. it's time for me to settle down a little, start having a normal life, and especially pay back all this money that i owe the bank. and then, start thinking about a couple and a family. many classmates and friends are already engaged and or married, i take it as a sign that maybe i should hurry a little. in fact, if i want to retire around 60 to enjoy a sweet elderly time with my grandchildren, it means that i only have 35 years left to become someone, make money, find someone and raise a family. in a few days, i will be a graduated engineer. to be able to request the p. eng. title, i need at least another 3 years of work experience. i can only get this experience while working as an engineer, and not at school working on a thesis project. this argument and the desire to reimburse my student debts reinforce my will to go work after graduation. but i still carry the fear of not being competent enough and i think i should specialize a bit more before i put myself in the work force. of course, in the current economical situation it is difficult to find jobs in high tech when there are so many ex-nortel or cisco engineers competing for jobs. more people are therefore inclined to do a masters, to specialize, be more qualified and also gain a bit of time, hoping that the market will look better in a few years. so what will i do after graduation? i still don't know. for a few months, i will work as a pseudo-coop with my last employer, while waiting for my application for a masters to be accepted. i feel lucky to have such plans, even though many variables are still undefined. to all the graduating engineers who don't know yet what they are up to after exams, i wish good luck and much success for finding what will make you happiest after university. to all the ones who know what they want to do but are still unsure whether or not they are getting it, i also wish you also a lot of luck and success in getting what you want. to all my fellow engineers, i wish a lot of happiness in the near and far future. Continued from pg. 14 "awww, you poor dear" greeting. just sit up, smile and show them they have nothing to feel bad about because you certainly don't. there are going to be times when you don't feel up or positive. it's perfectly natural. everyone goes through it. the danger lies in becoming too comfortable in that mood. again, think about your focus. focus - switch your focus off you and als to something positive in your life. impossible, right? perhaps. but you have already demonstrated great courage in the face of insurmountable odds by coming through the five stages of grief unscathed. "what does not destroy us - we destroy, and it makes us stronger." friedrich nietzsche for a long time, i felt sorry for myself. i was stuck in the depression stage. but, with the help of family and friends kicking my . along the way, i was able to clamber out of the darkness. once in the light, through squinting eyes, i saw my beautiful wife, my handsome son and my little baby girl. i swore from this point on, they would be my focus. i had been focusing on me, the disease, dying and everything i can no longer do. what i had to do was change my focal point. before als i could do maybe 10, 000 things give or take 100 ; ! now i can do.

Visual illusions are in general very informative about brain processing as they are examples of the visual system producing apparently erroneous percepts. however, applying bayes rule to visual perception has lead to an understanding of the nature of some but not all ; visual illusions. in a bayesian framework these percepts, while erroneous in the specific case, are nevertheless optimal in a general sense, given uncertainty inherent in the visual input. for example, the pattern of light and shade in figure 3 is optimally interpreted by the visual system as arising from circular bumps and depressions. therefore, rather than visual illusions arising from faulty processing, recent studies have shown that several visual illusions arise from a rational system that is designed to make judgements in the face of uncertainty. for example, a recent study has shown that motion illusions can arise as optimal percepts in the face of uncertainty4. cognition recently, bayesian models have been used to model our cognitive ability to learn concepts from a few examples5. for example, consider a number game where you are given samples from a set of numbers and asked whether a new number belongs to that set. for example, does 34 belong to the set which includes 31, 33, 35 and 37? if you believe that set contains the odd numbers then the answer would be no, but if you believe the set was all numbers between 30 and 40, then the answer would be yes. by defining a prior over each possible way that the set can be generated: odd numbers, primes numbers, perfect squares, intervals etc. and combining this with the likelihood of observing the data under each of these hypotheses about the sets it is possible to generate the posterior, that is the probability that the new element is a member of the set. this bayesian formulation allows the remarkably complex patterns of human behaviour in the number game to be predicted. a similar formulation can be used to model other forms of human reasoning, such as the determination of casual relationships. decision theory. A later player might complete the raise to the normal minimum. The subbasement was well lit also, but that was a doubtful virtue in a region so decayed. the brick flooring rippled like the face of the sea--a useful simile, because at least half of the surface was under water. the ceiling arches dripped condensate, and an apparent spring stirred one pool clear of the pale algae that scummed the others. a pump rumbled disconsolately, and the generator at the far end of the building vibrated at a higher frequency. workmen had drilled fresh holes through the ceiling to pass power lines to the upper stories. the air danced with brick dust. adele approved of the additional wiring in principle. the execution of the work was simple butchery, however. one might as well shear a book down on the upper and lower edges so that it fit your new shelving. her detachment had returned to double file; the only sound they made was the splash of boots in the foul water. the bays filled with the detritus of past generations looked like the wrack of a terrible storm. to adele it was a sad reminder of the ephemeral nature of human civilization; but then, she saw most things that way. hogg and the sailors probably had a different viewpoint. the pumps were in four brick alcoves jutting from the lengthwise exterior walls, arranged in an x pattern with the outside entrance between the pair on the north side. the pumps were huge cylinders sunk beneath floor level and venting through ceramic pipes half a meter in diameter. they had more than sufficient capacity to keep the subbasement dry. only the southwestern pump still worked, and a grumble from it suggested not all was well with that one either. as adele passed between the eastern pair of pumps, she glanced through the arch to her right. workmen had recently removed the end cap of the big electric drive motor. the alliance planned to put this portion of its house in order also. the broad outside stairs were a continuation of the light well that provided natural illumination for the basement level. the sliding doors that could offer twenty feet of width for large objects--the pumps and the fusion generator were obvious examples--were closed and barred, but the pedestrian door set in one of the larger panels stood ajar. the guard post covering this entrance was outside and up a level, at the basement landing. through the door adele heard a jig, distorted by reverberation in the stone-lined masonry pit of the light well. the soldiers were playing music that had been popular when adele was on the staff of the bryce academy. she'd never had a taste for music and she doubted that a connoisseur would have found the jig to have been of any particular merit, but it took her back to a time that was now forever past for her. she regretted its loss, as surely as she regretted the loss of her childhood. the music shut off in mid-chord. well, so had that stage of her life. the fusion generator was in a masonry room on the western end of the subbasement. according to architectural files, the original plan had been to enclose the generator in all directions but one, a curtain wall to the west. that way if the tokamak failed it would vent its plasma harmlessly into the open air. later electors had added to the initial structure. the ionized plume would now envelop the west wing and everyone in it, but adele had found no evidence in the records that this was viewed as a problem. fusion bottles rarely failed; and if this one did, well, the west wing was given over entirely to servants' quarters and the offices of low-ranking clerks. alliance officials had used the three bays in the northwest corner of the subbasement as a high-security prison. the wall of the generator room formed the south side, and a mesh of barbed wire woven on a steel frame closed the open end. twenty kostroman citizens--walter iii and members of his immediate family--shared two bays of the makeshift prison. the aglaia's five officers were in the remaining one, brightly illuminated by floodlights in the vaulted ceiling outside the enclosure. the prisoners had no privacy and no chance of escape, but adele saw as she approached that the twelve alliance soldiers on duty were a great deal less than alert. she and her detachment made no attempt to conceal themselves, but they were still within twenty yards of the post when a guard looked up, realized the splashing footsteps weren't condensate dripping after all, and shouted in surprise. guards jumped to their feet and zipped their uniform tunics closed. they'd appropriated furniture from the upper levels. the luxurious chairs, couches, and tables made a dissonant tableau among the utter squalor. "who's the officer in charge?" adele demanded. she didn't raise her voice, but the tinge of scorn in her voice was proper either for the lieutenant she pretended to be or the craftsman she truly was. a lanky soldier, the oldest in the squad by several years, stepped forward. instead of identifying himself he said, "sir, this is a restricted area." he tried to sound forceful and threatening. his act wasn't nearly as good as adele's. As you walk onto the trading floor of the design exchange you cannot help but think of a time when the building bustled with the frenetic pace of hundreds of brokers. the trading floor more endearingly known as "the floor that launched a thousand fortunes" housed the toronto stock exchange from 1937 till 1983. the exchange building designed by architects george and moorehouse with associate s.h. maw was a major construction project for its day acting as a public symbol of the lifting of the depression. the style of the building brilliantly. |
